The Rainy Day Women were formed in March 2023 with this project in mind.

They met in the March in London. Julie carted her rock posters books up to London as a starting reference point. The group started working together, talking about the project and started to draft up some ideas. From then on, the work began to take shape and the ladies kept in touch. Actually, they have chatted every day.

The name of the group came from Bob Dylan's track, it was the last song that he played at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1969. The story that goes behind the song is that 2 women came in to shelter from the rain one day when he was in his studio, and that they spoke of women rights in Iraq. This resonated with the group, since they have all contributed to embroidery projects about the rights of women.

All members are deeply concerned about the environment. They all saw this as an opportunity to make beautiful artworks as a form of peaceful protest.

The original pieces are being exhibited at Peer Studios in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight from 16th June to Saturday 1st July.

Postcards have been printed of all the pieces, all proceeds are going to the Isle of Wight Womens Refuge.
