Sharon Cavalier
Chaos and Curiosity Art

Sharon Cavalier is a mixed media artists based on the East Kent coast in Whitstable. She has a passion for beach combing and uses found objects to create her artworks. Her collections includes a wide range of materials from plastics, textiles, glass to driftwood. It is no surprise her hashtag stitched by Barclays questions the impact on the environment.

Brought up in the heart of the Kent countryside her local beach has been a core influence of her art practise. Trained as a BA hons printed textile designer at Middlesex Polytechnic she worked creating designs that sold internationally. She gained a PGCE at Brighton polytechnic and worked as a MPG Art and design teacher.

After moving from her small holding in West Kent to the coast she went freelance and established   Seaside workshops hosting at the Horsebridge community arts centre. Today she is a practising artist working from her self build workshop and studio. Washing away the grime from her beach finds and playing with beach found colourful plastics is a process she enjoys photographing.

The embroidered poster design was created in a similar way, arranging textile shapes and colours that are meaningful and relevant to the Isle of Wight activist campaign. Green and purple represent the RDW group surrounded by a pink ovarian flourish art nouveau style border. The black of oil and Isle of Wight seaside blue and yellow held within the question mark end on top our world.

Creating awareness of waste and pollution through education, community projects and exhibitions is how she expresses her concern for the world she lives in. Living and working by the sea time and tide wait for no person. Believing education is for all and sharing ideas by creating sustainable art practise is paramount to her ethos.
